Description:
A glazed earthenware spill vase in the majolica style, with two white cranes perched on a naturalistic tree trunk that forms the vessel. The birds are modeled with quiet precision — smooth white glaze over sculpted feathers, amber-glazed beaks and legs, each posed at a slightly different angle. The spill vase is richly glazed in pooling browns, cream, and green, with a leaf or frond visible at the back — the kind of detail you notice on second look. Spill vases of this type were originally placed on a mantel and held thin tapers to carry flame from hearth to candle.

Condition:
Very good vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Minor dark spotting on the birds consistent with age. Base is unglazed with incised marks; no printed maker's mark present.

Approximate Dimensions:
7-3/4" long x 5-1/4" wide x 9-1/2" tall
Spill vase: 6-1/2" tall with 2" diameter opening
Weight: 2 lb 9.8 oz (2.61 lbs)

Style Tip:
Sculptural enough to hold its own on a console or shelf without anything in it — though several stems of dried grass would settle right into the opening and add height.
