Antique Carl Tielsch Pink Rose Bowls, Set of 2
Description:
A matched pair of antique porcelain bowls, one large and one small, from Carl Tielsch & Company. Hand-painted pink roses in full and partial bloom scatter across a ground that shifts from warm ivory to deep tobacco brown at the scalloped embossed rim. The C.T. eagle mark dates production to 1887 or later; the smaller bowl is additionally marked Germany, consistent with post-1891 export requirements. Both pieces are likely late 19th to very early 20th century.
Condition:
Good antique condition with honest wear consistent with age. Both bowls show scattered surface spots — small dark marks visible on interior and exterior surfaces. The small bowl has a shallow chip to one of the brown-glazed leaves on the rim; noted in photos. Gold detailing on the small bowl runs the full rim. On the large bowl, gold is present only on the dark brown rim section. No cracks or crazing observed on either piece.
Approximate Dimensions:
Large bowl: 10" diameter x 2-7/8" deep
Small bowl: 5-1/2" diameter x 1-7/8" deep
Weight: 1 lb 5.3 oz (1.33 lb) combined
Style Tip:
The large bowl is worth propping up in a stand. Set the small bowl in front and the two become a vignette in themselves, without needing much company.
