CONDITION
Excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks noted. Light firing irregularities and subtle glaze variations are present, consistent with vintage stoneware production.
ABOUT THIS PIECE
This small Monmouth Pottery pitcher has a rounded body covered in closely spaced horizontal ribs, a form often described by collectors as beehive stoneware. The soft green glaze varies naturally across the surface and settles slightly deeper in the recessed ribbing.
The base has a molded maple leaf mark associated with Monmouth Pottery. Monmouth became part of Western Stoneware in 1906. While similar ribbed Monmouth pitchers are often attributed to the early-to-mid 20th century, I have not found enough documentation to confidently date this example to a specific decade.
INSPIRATION
Its 16-ounce capacity makes this a useful small pitcher for serving milk, cream, or syrup, or for holding a small bunch of flowers.
