Description:
A pair of vintage cast iron duck bookends, each depicting a duck in low flight with wings spread over churned water. The finish has a dark bronze base with copper-toned highlights that pick out the feathering, wing shape, and wave crests.
The backs are stamped with what appears to be a model number, 1003, along with partial maker information. Based on comparable examples, these may be attributed to Blodgett Studio of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. One bookend retains a retailer sticker on the base from The Book Shop, 316 No. Chicago St., Joliet, Illinois.
Sized for a smaller shelf stack, desk, or study, these bookends hold books firmly while adding quiet rustic character. They would be especially well suited to a library shelf, writing desk, office, den, or collected home with an appreciation for birds, sporting motifs, or vintage metalwork.
Condition:
Good vintage condition consistent with age and use. The antiqued copper-highlight finish shows overall wear and minor surface oxidation, expected and appropriate for pieces of this type. Green felt on the bases is worn and compressed but intact. No chips, cracks, or structural issues observed.
Approximate Dimensions:
Each bookend: 4-3/4" tall x 4-1/4" wide x 2" deep
Weight: 4.2 lb per pair
Books, plants, flowers, and other styling props are not included. Listing is for the vintage cast iron duck bookends only.
