This vintage spill vase features two pale gray crane- or heron-like birds standing on a rock alongside a naturalistic tree trunk that forms the vase. It combines sculptural presence with decorative function.

CONDITION
Very good vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Minor dark spotting on the birds is consistent with age. The base is unglazed with incised marks.
ABOUT THIS PIECE
The two birds are softly modeled with gently rounded forms and expressive poses. Their pale gray glaze contrasts beautifully with the richly variegated browns, greens, and amber tones of the naturalistic base.
Spill vases of this type were traditionally placed on a mantel and used to hold thin wooden tapers for carrying flame from the hearth to candles or lamps.
