Vintage Engraved Brass Trinket Dishes, Made in India, Set of 2
Description:
A pair of small solid brass dishes made in India, each hand-engraved with a dense floral and leafy scrollwork pattern. The center of each dish carries a radiating flower medallion; the wide rim is filled with scrolling leaves and blooms rendered in fine, closely worked lines. The two dishes share the same vocabulary of motifs but are not identical — the engraving on each follows its own arrangement, the way handwork tends to do.
No maker's mark beyond "Made in India" stamped on the reverse. Unmarked as to period; consistent with mid-to-late 20th century production. The brass has developed a warm, even patina that settles into the engraved lines and makes the pattern read more clearly than it likely did when new.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. Brass shows an even, attractive patina with no pitting or damage. No dents, cracks, or repairs observed. Engraving is crisp and intact on both dishes.
Approximate Dimensions:
3-3/4" diameter
Weight: 3.6 oz each (0.46 lb combined)
Style Tip:
These are small enough to disappear on a large surface but worth displaying where the engraving can be seen up close — propped upright on an eye-level shelf, tucked into a vignette with books and a small vessel, or set out on a desk or nightstand to hold rings or a few coins. The detail reveals itself gradually; proximity helps.
