Vintage Hand-Carved Soapstone Bookends, Potted Plants
Description:
A pair of vintage hand-carved soapstone bookends featuring potted flowering plants in raised planters, creating a mirrored pair. The carving is fully dimensional — foliage and blooms extend outward from the back panel rather than sitting in shallow relief. The stone is a warm golden olive with some pink, rust, and deeper tones. One bookend features darker mineral inclusions in the base that add natural variation and character.
Heavy and substantial for their size, these bookends are both functional and decorative. No maker’s mark present. Likely mid-20th century based on materials and carving style.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks observed. Natural variation and veining throughout the stone. Light surface wear consistent with age and use.
Approximate Dimensions:
4" wide x 5" tall x 1-3/4" deep each
Weight: 60.8 oz (3.8 lb) combined
Style Tip:
Heavy enough to actually hold books, and sculptural enough to stand on their own — style them on a desk, shelf, or console with studio pottery, wood tones, woven textures, or a small stack of favorite books.
Books, plants, flowers, and other styling props are not included. Listing is for the soapstone bookends only.
