Vintage JKW-decorated German porcelain game bird plate featuring a pair of snipe, a turquoise blue rim and ornate gold decoration.

CONDITION
Very good vintage condition. The gold decoration remains bright overall with scattered rubbing and softening. A tiny curl of gold extends beyond the inner border onto the turquoise rim from the original transfer placement. There is minor roughness and several small flea bites along portions of the foot rim on the reverse. No cracks noted.

ABOUT THIS PIECE
The central transfer-applied scene depicts a pair of snipe among grasses and low foliage. It is encircled by a layered gold ornamental border, while the broad turquoise blue rim carries repeating gilt flowers, foliage and basket motifs.

JKW was Josef Kuba Werkstätte, a porcelain decorating business founded in Karlsbad in 1930 and later re-established in Wiesau, Bavaria. The green Fine Porcelain Western Germany cover-up mark was used circa 1952–1972. Part of the original Rosenthal Germany mark remains visible beneath the JKW mark, identifying Rosenthal as the maker of the porcelain blank.

INSPIRATION
A natural choice for a plate wall, china cabinet, library or study, particularly among bird art and traditional sporting pieces. The turquoise rim also layers beautifully with blue and white china.
