CONDITION
Good vintage condition with an attractive aged brass patina. There are two small dents, one in the cylindrical stem and another in the base near the stem. Both are shown in the photographs.

ABOUT THIS PIECE
This substantial brass chamberstick follows a traditional design, with a central candle cup rising from a broad, shallow saucer and a finger loop handle attached to the rim. The generous drip pan was designed to catch melting candle wax, while the handle allowed the candlestick to be carried from room to room. Chambersticks were once familiar household objects, particularly useful in bedrooms and hallways before electric lighting became commonplace.

Made in India, the chamberstick still has its original paper safety label on the underside.

INSPIRATION
I particularly like the weight of this chamberstick and its unusually wide saucer. There is plenty of room around the candle cup for a few small seasonal decorations or a book of matches. The dark aged brass patina is appealing to me, too, and I have chosen to leave it as found.
