CONDITION
Very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks observed. The gilded accents on the three ball feet are beautifully preserved. One section of the interior border has a decoration flaw, with incomplete color and outlining. The glaze feels smooth across this area, suggesting an original manufacturing irregularity rather than later wear. Please see the labeled detail photograph.
ABOUT THIS PIECE
This charming little bowl was made by Noritake in Japan and bears the red-brown Morimura Brothers M-wreath backstamp, associated with the company's decorative Fancyware. Unlike its dinnerware lines, Noritake's Fancyware included individual ornamental and useful pieces, particularly popular during the 1920s and 1930s.
The elaborate design features fanciful, almost mythical-looking birds surrounded by flowers, curling leaves, and ornamental scrollwork. Soft greens, yellows, blues, and mauves stand out against the warm cream interior, while the exterior is left plain white.
INSPIRATION
This little bowl deserves a spot where its colorful interior can be admired. Display it on a sideboard, console, or open shelf, perhaps alongside old books, botanical prints, or other collected pieces. It could also hold a few small keepsakes, although its better suited to a quiet spot than a busy surface.
