ABOUT THIS PIECE
Royal Crown Derby introduced Blue Mikado in the late 19th century, with its detailed blue landscapes inspired by East Asian imagery. The pattern has long been associated with a romantic tale featuring the “Wandering Sad-Eyed Lover,” with figures appearing among water, trees, pagodas, and other landscape details.
This little creamer captures two wonderfully detailed scenes. On one side, a seated woman plays a stringed instrument beneath a tree; turn the jug and a seated man fishes beside the water. The Royal Crown Derby backstamp includes the factory date cipher for 1936.
INSPIRATION
I find this little creamer charming even without its sugar bowl companion. It is perfectly usable for cream or milk, but at only 3" tall it would also be a lovely small piece to place among a collection of blue-and-white china.
Styling props shown in photos are not included. Listing is for the bone china creamer only.
