ABOUT THIS PIECE
These unusual candle holders combine sweeping leaf-form bases and open scrollwork with flower-shaped cups designed to hold taper candles. Their sculptural forms are characteristic of Art Deco design, while the creamy off-white glaze keeps the elaborate shapes soft and understated.
Both retain the same Czecho-Slovakia mark on the underside. The pair appears to date to the Art Deco era, likely the 1920s or 1930s.
INSPIRATION
Use as a pair on a mantel, sideboard, or dinner table, or tuck them into a collected display of white ceramics.
